End of Watch: September 5, 1878
Sheriff Ralston was shot and killed in a saloon while trying to stop a quarrel between 2 men.
- Undersheriff James Thompson

End of Watch: July 1, 1878
Undersheriff Thompson died from heat stroke. The first recognized law enforcement death in Montana.
